I wanted to test out the open ALL (seriously all doors, yes, I'm serious, that's why I double clicked this button, right? Right!) feature to see how long it took to kill my entire crew, and got a score of ten, I believe.

I would use Dwarf Fortress as a model for character individualization, history, talents, and relationships. The modifiers should be subtle enough that players can ignore them and do fine in the game. Whilst waiting for that feature, I'd suggest using random.org with a list of all ships/variants, and randomize the list on your new playthrough. Choose the ship closest to the top of the list that you have unlocked. Do the same thing for a list of names you'd like to use.

Turning off your life support system is an extremely effective way to fight fires when you cannot vent a room's atmosphere into space (such as because the connection rooms to the airlocks are occupied with important systems you want to keep manned, or you do not have airlocks).
